Telangana New Land Rules Released for Land Acquisitions

Telangana government on Thursday issued the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Rules, 2014, which will be adopted for land acquisitions for public purposes.

The draft rules were published in the Extraordinary Gazette on Thursday, objections or suggestions will be considered if submitted within 15 days.

The limits on extent of land beyond which provisions of the Act, in cases of purchase by a private company through private negotiation with the owner of the land, shall be 2,000 acres subject to further notifications.

Telangana government is to set up district and state committees for settlement of compensation claims. Land acquisition should not exceed 15 per cent of the net present cultivable area in the state; districts limits will be set by collectors. If the acquired land remains unutilised for five years, it will be returned to the original owner or to the land bank.
