Telangana MPs demand separate railway division at Kazipet
Telangana Lawmakers demanded establishment of a separate railway division at Kazipet at a high-level meeting with South Central Railway (SCR) authorities on Wednesday.
SCR general manager PK Srivastava said about 18 MPs from Telangana attended the meet with various suggestions for development of the new Telangana state.
While the major focus remained on developing Kazipet as a new division and establishing a wagon manufacturing unit there, other issues like increasing connectivity within telangana state and more allocation of funds were also discussed.
Union minister of state for labour and employment Bandaru Dattatreya was also present at the meeting. He said that Telangana would get its due and he would organise a meeting between state MPs and Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu soon.
Kadiyam Srihari also brought up the pathetic condition of Kazipet railway hospital and said that the station is now an integral part of the state and needs to be improved. He also said that many more trains should halt at the station and it needs to be modernised.
The Karimnagar MP Vinod Kumar said like the planning commission, the railway board should also be dissolved. “Every decision, from running new trains to making additional stops, has to be approved by the railway board. This is causing more problems than we can handle
Another issue that was unanimously agreed on was changing the name of the train Andhra Pradesh Express. The train between Hyderabad and New Delhi touches no part of Andhra Pradesh anymore, and hence the name should be changed, they opined.
