Telangana Government to develop buddhist sites near Nagarjuna sagar
Government of Telangana plans to develop nagarjuna sagar as a prominent place of buddhist significance. Nagarjuna Sagar in Nalgonda district hold a historical and religious significance for Buddhism as a number of Buddhist monasteries and inscriptions having been found in excavations.
Chief minister of telangana KCR visited Buddhavaram in Nagarjuna sagar in Nalgonda district on the occasion of buddha jayanti and said telangana government would appoint special authority and a special officer for the development of “ Sri Parvatha Rama – Buddhavannam “ .
Chief minister KCR gave a brief outline of his government’s plans to develop infrastructure in and around Nagarjunasagar, with a special focus on the Buddha Vanam in the Sri Parvatham area overlooking the reservoir.
KCR Visited Buddha Vanam project area and inspected the facilities there and said that telangana government would give additional land extending up to the reservoir for the project, which is currently being developed on 274 acres. As he went around the site, he asked officials to identify the perfect spot for erecting the 27-foot statue of Buddha gifted for the project by the Sri Lanka government.
KCR Said once the development is completed, Nagarjuanasagar should emerge as a global site of importance for Buddhist pilgrimage. He also said he would soon convene a meeting in Hyderabad to discuss the development proposals and plans in detail.
