Sasikala along with the co-accused Ilvarasi arrived at the court at 5.17pm and surrendered before Judge Aswatha Narayana. The procedure lasted for an hour and the AIADMK leader walked to the jail from the court along with Ilavarasi.
Another accused Sudhakaran arrived in the court later and his surrender was delayed since his vehicle broke down on the way.
Amidst reports that Sasikala has sought for ‘special treatment’ in jail during her sentence of 3 years and six months, Bengaluru jail officials have denied of those rumours saying that Sasikala will not be granted any ‘special facilities’ in Jail.
Earlier 61-year-old VK Sasikala had sought for a few facilities in her cell in the Parappana Agrahara jail where she would be put. According to reports, she had requested jail authorities in writing asking for ‘home-made food’, mineral water and western commode-type toilet and 24 hour running hot water are some of her requests.
Sasikala had claimed that she’s suffering from blood-sugar and hence requested jail authorities to allow her to have home-made food. This isn’t all. It’s reported that Sasikala would be lodged in a private cell which would have a cot, TV. Reports had it that she would also be provided a helper.
However, latest report is that jail authorities have stated that Sasikala would be given ‘same treatment’ like other inmates in the jail.
It can be recalled that Sasikala had spent nearly a month in the same prison, the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail on the outskirts of Bengaluru, in 2014. Much has changed since then. Jayalalithaa was also jailed after being convicted in the same case but she passed away on December 5.
