Medak district Police to launch Distress Intervention Centre
Medak district Police in Telangana state is launching a Distress Intervention Centre “ Chetana” to deal with issues where court verdicts and police cases do not provide any succor to victims.
Psychologists, Paramedical Staff, Retired Teachers , Student Volunteers and experienced Police officers will participate in this group to examine cases and decide if the victim is under emotional stress or needs to be referred to doctor or lawyer or Clinical Psychologist.
The cases that are taken up for examination may be registered at police station level but the group will examine and analyze them independently and irrespective of developments in the police cases occurring at the police station level.
Medak District SP Sumathi says. “For instance, physiological and psychological disturbances arising out of poverty, unemployment, economic and social disparities, rivalries within families, or an embarrassed student who has faced teasing in such instances police cannot provide a solution but a group of people can intervene and provide some help,’’ she says.
