Famous filmmaker K Balachander (84) passed away on Tuesday due to prolonged illness while undergoing treatment at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai.

K Balachander was born on 9th July, 1930. He directed 101 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. K Balachander made his directorial debut with ‘Neer Kumizhi’ and his last flick ‘Abaddam’ released in the year 2006.

He is a mentor to Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Prakash Raj. ‘Maro Charithra’, ‘Idhi Katha Kadu’ and ‘Rudraveena’ were some of his best works. As Producer, He made successful films like ‘Roja’ and ‘Muthu’. He also directed ‘Rahasyam’ & ‘Marmadesam’ which were still touted to be the best suspense thrillers ever made on Television.

He was a recipient of 9 National awards , In the year 2011 he was conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He also received Padma Shri, Kalaimamani and ANR National Award.
