Hundreds of followers of Sai Baba are celebrating the festival of Guru Purnima across several parts of India. Devotees in large numbers thronged at all Shirdi Saibaba temples in Telangana on the occasion of Guru Purnima.
Several special programmes and annadanam are being organized at the popular Shirdi Saibaba temples in Dilsukhnagar, Punjagutta and Filmnagar in the twincities.
The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Maharshi Veda Vyasa, who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavatam.
Veda Vyasa even taught Dattatreya, who is regarded as the Guru of Gurus. On this day, all spiritual aspirants and devotees worship Vyasa in honor of his divine personage and all disciples perform a ‘puja’ of their respective spiritual preceptor or ‘Gurudevs’.
Shirdi Saibaba gave utmost priority to Guru Purnima and advised his followers to celebrate Vyasa Purnima as Guru Purnima.
