Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday assured the Telangana Congress Legislative Party (CLP) delegation the government would take stringent action against the responsible in the lockup death of dalit woman Mariyamma at Addagudur police station in Yadadri Bhongir district.
Mr. Rao gave the instructions after interacting with a delegation of Congress MLAs who called on him at Pragati Bhavan and submitted a memorandum seeking justice to Mariamma’s family and action against those responsible for the incident. CLP leader M. Bhatti Vikramarka led the delegation which comprised senior leaders D. Sridhar Babu, K. Rajagopal Reddy, T. Jayaprakash Reddy and TPCC SC cell chairman Pritam.
CM KCR said the government would support the son and daughters of deceased Mariamma. The CM instructed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to ensure that Mariamma’s son Uday Kiran is given government job, a house and Rs 15 Lakhs ex gratia amount, and Mariamma’s two daughters are given Rs 10 Lakh each. The CM instructed the DGP to visit Chintakaniki to find out the facts and details about the lockup death and console the members of the victim’s family.
Responding to Mariyamma’s death, KCR said, “There is a need for the society to change its attitude towards Dalits. Especially the attitude and behaviour of the police towards the Dalits should be in favour of them and support them. It is unfortunate that when the police machinery is making a qualitative change in maintaining the law-and-order situation, such an incident took place. We will not pardon such incidents”.
He also stated that “he will not keep quiet if anyone does harm to Dalits. “There will be swift action on the matter. There should not be any delay in inquiring about the culprits of lockup death and taking stern action against them. If need be, dismiss them from the service,” the CM instructed DGP Mahender Reddy.
