Soumen Banerjee 40 years hailing from Kolkata who posed as a businessman, was booked by Medipally police for duping villagers by promising them loans and for fooling bank officials by submitting fake documents and taking huge loans.
According to police Soumen Banerjee had cheated people in Chengicherla village with the false promise to provide 30 per cent interest per Rs 1 lakh and collected lakhs from more than 50 victims.
Based on a complaint received from his friend and associate, Akhil, a real estate agent, police booked a case against Banerjee.
Soumen Banerjee was earlier arrested for fraud by Kushaiguda police in September 2016. Later, after a brawl with Akhil, he started duping the public said Sub Inspector Naveen Kumar of the Special Operation Team of Malkajgiri.
The total scam is estimated to be around Rs 10 to 15 crore including Rs 40 lakh of banks. Soumen Banerjee and his wife Suparna Banerjee, 35 years, and son Susovan Banerjee 14 Years, went absconding two days before the complaint was lodged with the Medipally police.
“He has about 20 plus bank accounts and uses fake credentials to apply for loans,” added the Sub Inspector .
Police is on the lookout for the accused in different states including Maharashtra and West Bengal.
